Responsibilities

Underwriter I, II, Senior (CLU & CLSU):

  • Reviews and approves consumer loans based upon the assigned level of loan authority. 
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate decisioning of consumer lending products utilizing the Credit Union’s credit granting guidelines. 
  • Communicates loan policy and procedural information via multiple communication channels to existing and potential Credit Union membership
  • Decisions routine and complex loan requests by validating loan data, examining documentation, identifying loan fraud, evaluating/mitigating risk within delegated authority
  • May review previously decisioned transactions for accuracy and adherence to the Credit Union’s underwriting and corporate policies 
  • Prepares loan documentation
  • May be assigned to a direct lending team (member facing) or an indirect team (auto dealer facing).

 

Senior Underwriter/Team Lead (CLSUTL):

  • May be assigned all or a portion of the duties of the Consumer Loan Underwriter I, II & Senior.
  • Responsible for coordinating the day-to-day production, related processes, and staffing levels. Provides consistent communication between Loan Processors, Loan Officers and management to ensure production logics are effectively executed
  • Recommends ideas and solutions for process improvements and risk prevention based on employee observation/analysis
  • Tracks and reports on Department metrics and goals.
  • Assists the Consumer Lending Department with research and development of policy, procedures and guidelines
  • May handle projects associated with the implementation of processes, procedures, and software enhancements that ensure compliance, efficiency, quality control and member satisfaction

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Multiple shifts are needed to cover the work hours for this position and may be assigned as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and alternating Saturday / Sunday: 9:30 am to 8:00 pm EST with ability to work three out of four days remotely most weeks
  • Later weekday hours and weekends may be worked remotely
  • Shift assignments are based upon the needs of the Credit Union which can require overtime

Qualifications

Consumer Lending Underwriter I (HG)

High school diploma or equivalent.  Two years or less of related experience and/or training. Works under immediate supervision. 

 

Consumer Lending Underwriter II (HI)

High school diploma or equivalent. Three or more years of consumer lending underwriting experience is required with demonstrated knowledge of standard consumer lending products, policy/procedures and regulations.   Can work under general supervision.  Has a higher level of loan authority than the Underwriter I.

 

Consumer Lending Senior Underwriter/CLSU Team Lead (HJ)

High school diploma or equivalent.  Degree in a relevant field preferred.  Ten or more years of consumer lending underwriting experience is required with demonstrated knowledge of standard consumer lending products, policy/procedures and regulations (unless skills are deemed appropriate by the VP of Retail Services.  Works under minimal supervision.  Has a higher level of loan authority than the Underwriter II.  Team Lead requires more experience than the CLSU III and has experience with coaching, performance management, analyzing and creating workflows.
